Heh. Not so easy, it seems

I was looking forward to getting home from work tonight to see how big a hole they ended up digging in the corner to mend the gas line junction. And, you know, to see if the three postholes were enough, in the median in front of my house.

At the intersection a block from my house, there was a big orange sign posted, WORKERS AHEAD. I thought, 'At 8:45pm? Really?' No. The workers were gone. They did leave some things behind, indicating that they would be back. There is still the bucket loader, pulled tightly up to the median of the house across the street from me. The trailer-load of piping is still parked across the other street from my house. And there is a 5' x 3' hole in the median in front of my house, a 2' x 3' hole in the corner where the junction box was rumored to be, and three more, smaller holes dug. Two are on each street side of the house across the street where the bucket loader is parked, and one is in the median in front of the house across the street from me the other way. They are all surrounded by that festive bright orange mesh fencing. Which any small dog or normal cat could easily get under, if they wanted to explore a big hole.

I noticed the dirt that would fill these five holes was nowhere to be seen. I'm guessing they decided to take it with them in the big dump truck that had arrived as I was leaving for work today. At that point, the count was three pick-up trucks, the dump truck, the bucket loader, and a backhoe. And two of the pick-ups were nearly blocking me in, but not quite.

I do have normal gas service at the moment.

And tomorrow I have to be at work at 9am. I hope that will put me out of here before I have to battle with the pick-up trucks to get out of my driveway.

If they don't get things resolved by tomorrow evening, I think the village may have words to say about it. The big Memorial Day Flea Market is Monday, and people usually park on our streets, since we are just around the block from the square. Big holes, inadequately surrounded by mesh, are not exactly the image the village would like to project to the many visitors.
