Fall down go boom
Last night at the 2:30 trip to the bathroom, I caught my foot on the uneven floor in the utility room and fell. Since I was not really awake, I guess I was pretty relaxed. I barely had time to realize 'Oh, NO-' followed immediately by 'FLOOR.' But I fell flat on my stomach, which is very much the most heavily padded part of me. And I realized it hadn't hurt, or really jarred me much at all.
But then I had to get up. It's bending the knees that hurts, but what's far worse is having to put pressure on the knees as they straighten. Also, I had to flex the right ankle, which is nearly frozen with arthritis, so that was somewhat less than fun, as well. I was up pretty quickly, though, thanks to the chair by the dryer, and wobbled on into the bathroom in time to keep from wetting myself. So that was excellent. So was having a walker in the living room that I could easily get to afterwards, to help me through the house for now.
I even made it into staff meeting this morning. But it was getting harder and harder to walk, even leaning heavily on my walking sticks. After the meeting I had to get cat food (because I used the last for their breakfast, EMERGENCY! NEED CAT FOOD) and a couple of other things that I should have made it to the store for last weekend. And it was during the grocery stop that things started to catch up with me. The last straw was needing twenty minutes to get from the car into the house with my four small bags of groceries.
So I called in to say I was going to have to use sick leave for the rest of my day at work. I still have to put refrigerator items away, but then I think I'll wash up and change into stay-at-home clothes and take a nap.
