Grocery shopping as workout mode
I managed to get to Kroger today, and there were many things on sale that I picked up. Because, when the Chobani Greek yogurt is on sale for $1 apiece, you want to stock up. Which I did, to the tune of, er, 42 of them? Yes, I will admit to embarrassment. But, in my defense, I have been doing without yogurt (or other dairy except some cheese occasionally) for much of the summer (strictly because it's so expensive). And if I can keep my yogurt consumption down to just 4 or 5 per week, I've got plenty of yogurt for a couple of months.
It was hilarious, when I was pulling container after container off the shelf. Kroger has pretty much ALLL the different flavors of Chobani, and the add-in snack units, and also a new "blended" version for coconut yogurt and for key lime, which I put straight into the freezer. And yes, I know the add-in snack units are way overpriced and high-calorie. I consider them dessert treats. And buying them this way prevents me mixing them myself and creating way too high-calorie versions. Nope, simply not that evolved yet.
The best part was that Chobani wasn't the only brand on sale. I forget which one was beside the Chobani, but there was a woman doing the same thing as me, with her brand. We laughed about it.
I was sad that there were no Ohio-grown tomatoes (so I didn't buy any), nor any blueberries. I want to see if I can walker my way around the square tomorrow for the Farmer's Market, because I can AT LEAST get tomatoes there. I also need honey, and I am fairly sure there are a couple of local beekeepers who sell their wares.
The upshot of today's groceries, though, was four VERY heavy bags, plus a couple of other lighter-weight bags, to haul into the house. I have taken to loading the bags onto the sides of the walker, over the handles, and LIFTING the whole thing (paying attention to good posture and sound lifting techniques, as far as my arthritis will allow). Sure I only move it about 3-4 inches at a time, but it's a workout! Slow, steady and even. Yeah, OK, it's not nice that I sweated through my clothes doing it, but hey, it's just me and the cats, so who cares?
