I should laugh. It's definitely worthy of hilarity
So today I went to work like usual. I felt pretty good, had gotten some solid sleep last night, had plenty of time when I woke up to spend clearing the built-up mucus from my nose and lungs. No problem!
But, when I was at work, I managed to catch the toe of my right shoe on the corner of a box that is sitting beside the door to the assistant director's office. This box has been there for over a month, I've even stumbled over it before. This time I really caught my foot, and was moving fast enough that I couldn't stop. I tried grabbing at the book truck across the walkway, but it didn't do much to slow down my fall, and there was just no way to get my feet under me.
I landed on my knees. Wow, did that hurt. And then there was the problem of getting back up. Also very painful. Well, I mean, way more painful that normal. After I sat in my chair for a couple of minutes, I took some ibuprofen. Then I went into the staff bathroom to see how things looked. Just more swollen, with only the right knee showing localized bruising. I could walk, so long as I took tiny, slow steps.
So I elected to go home. I know exactly when the adrenaline rush wore off- I was signing out on my timesheet, before I went to get my coat on, when I suddenly burst into uncontrollable tears. Fortunately it was like a cloudburst- sudden onset, sudden ending.
Now I've tried to call the fam, since I don't know that I will be able to get up there this weekend to give my bro his check for the mortgage. No answer on the house phone, no answer on the s-i-l's cell. This isn't that unusual, it's just frustrating. And I don't actually have any ice, either- what was in the freezer has all sublimated. I lay down on my bed and dozed for a couple of hours, and I guess I'll get up shortly and put water in the ice cube trays. Later, I will try calling the fam again (I left a message, but they tend to ignore messages from me).
So, how was anyone else's Saturday?
