Today's disconnect with reality
May. 7th, 2012 05:35 pmThe vet's wife called today to tell me that they did need to get a different antibiotic for Pansy, because she has developed a resistance to what we've been using.
And that she had called it in to Giant Eagle, because it was one of their free antibiotics. And I should be able to pick it up anytime this afternoon.
Well, except that I have never gotten anything filled there before, so I had to do paperwork to register as a pharmacy customer. I had explained that this medicine was for my cat, and so the woman said, "It's OK, just fill out the contact information and sign it, and then we can start building the profile for... uh, your cat." AR AR AR!
And so I went to Meijer's to buy groceries, and came back to pick the medicine up afterwards. At the drive-through window. Where the man looking for the prescription finally came back and asked what my cat's name was, since there wasn't anything there for me. AND YES IT WAS under Pansy's name. Except they made her really exotic- they spelled it "Panzi." AR AR AR! Soooo, I have more (probably) vile pink liquid to give her every 12 hours. The guy filling it gave me two empty syringes to use for dispensing it, since he said he knows how tricky it can be to dose a cat. But, he also told me that the formula they mixed up expires in 14 days, and her prescription was listed as 21 days, so I have a refill to get for the next lot, after the 14 days are up. But it's still free, even if it's for my cat. AR AR AR!
ETA: SO GLAD the medicine was free. The first dose lasted an hour and a half, then Pansy was puking up her dinner, followed by puddles of pink liquid, from the living room on into the utility room. I called it in, and the vet's wife went through the severe drug reaction list. Since she wasn't weak, or stumbling, or having trouble breathing, she should be OK. But that medicine is done.
Now we have to see if it goes to just giving her injections until she's all better. Which... the running tally of my vet bill after Singer is upwards of $2400. This? This is not going to help. They are fine with me making payments, but I am going to be paying forever at this rate.
