Too. Damn. Cold.
Jan. 28th, 2014 03:04 pmWhen I got up at 7 to feed the cats, Accuweather told me it was -9. When I finished e-mail and checked again at 8, Accuweather revised that to -15. When I realized the laboring (junk) Trane furnace was unable to get up past 58 degrees in the house, I called the furnace place to ask if that's normal. He admitted that seemed a little low, sent a guy.
The same guy who's been to "fix" the furnace before, the one who sold me this piece of junk.
Blah blah blah, sounds like lies and other misrepresentations, could all be honest truth for all I know. Quite a bit was said about getting insulation, and he wanted to call Habitat for Humanity to come insulate my house. I had to really lean on the NO. DO NOT DO THAT. This house is in no shape for anyone to be trying to get at walls, etc. So back to the furnace. He set the burn and the fan to high, and I will have to call them when it gets above 20 outside, to come back and reset. It's still running, hasn't made it quite up to the 67 I've set it.
After I called the place at 8:30, I was doing dishes. I thought, hm, the water's getting hotter, lemme turn on the cold a bit. Only to discover that the cold water line had frozen. So I turn off the water and go dig out the hairdryer (because one of the many design flaws perpetuated by idiots in the past regarding how this house was made involved running water lines to a sink through a cold basement, directly in front of a north facing basement window, so the freeze is not what you'd call unprecedented). Come back and lean over for a few minutes, heating the cold water pipe under the sink. When I need to rest, I figure I can at least get a couple more dishes washed with just hot water.
Except the hot water line is now frozen, too.
I've thawed enough that I have a thin stream from both faucets. Which I have left running. But have made no further headway on getting more water through either. So getting my coffeepot washed and more made, plus getting the water for my oatmeal, was hilariously time-consuming.
Accuweather claims we are up to 6 degrees above zero outside now. I still have to shovel to get to the car and clear it off, and I should try for the post office, but... maybe I'll just do stuff inside today. I have to take the trash out for tomorrow's pick up, that might be all I manage outside.
Whups! Just checked Accuweather now and we've lost three degrees again, we're down to 3. With windchill taking it down to feeling like -15. Yeah, trash will be enough outdoor work for me. It's allegedly going to get up to 17 degrees tomorrow, that would be a better day for shoveling. And driving. If the car starts.
Plz can we be done with winter nao?
