Usually not so bad, since it's the second day of my weekend. Today, though, I had to put off the cats from getting their breakfast while I got up and dressed, then corral them ALL to be ready for the vet visit for their yearlies.

Fortunately, I started at 8:30 for the "somewhere between 9:30 and 10:00" appointment. Singer was first, and easiest, since I still have to feed him in the bathroom. It was a simple matter of closing the door when he went in and sat down to wait for me. I grabbed Corrigan and Pansy next, and kind of flung them into the utility room and shut the door, but when I nabbed Chloe and tried to jam her in there with them, they both burst through the door and were gone. But I did get Chloe in there.

Dash came strolling in from his night outdoors like usual, the king ready for his brekkie, and I rudely snatched him up and pushed him in the utility room, then started going around chasing the other three, setting up attempts at barricades here and there, and leaving a bowl of food on the floor to try to get them to come and let me get close enough.

My first barricade was a big sheet of cardboard across the foot of the steps, braced by the vacuum cleaner, but Pansy sailed over that like a horse in a steeplechase and ran up the stairs. I left her and went after Corrigan, again, alternating with Bright Eyes. I finally sat down to rest and try to think of anything else I could do, and Pansy (who is a notorious busybody) came down the stairs to see what was going on, and kindly let me catch her. It was long enough at that point that Dash and Chloe were not hovering at the utility room door, so that made it easy enough to stow her. Bright Eyes let me get her next, and I crammed her into the cat carrier in the kitchen, where she proceeded to let me know at top volume how little she was enjoying it. Corrigan went to ground in the dining room, where there is still big chunks of plaster all over from the latest ceiling fall-in. I grubbed him out from under one chair, he went under another, and I finally was able to grab him and drag him out, along with a goodly amount of ancient plaster grit. It was 9:35 when I sat down at the kitchen table with him, to start brushing him clear of grit while we waited.

The vet was late (their son had to come with them, he had an orthodontist appointment in Columbus and there wasn't enough time to do the visit and go back up and get him- he was not happy), but that gave me time to really get Corrie brushed well. He was pretty relaxed, at least until the car stopped outside and people got out.

But, the circus was fast, the vet was lucky to get a glimpse of ears and mouths (too hot and stressful with the house falling apart like it is), and Dash and Singer got rabies shots, everyone got their distemper and leukemia shots, and Singer got a dose of antibiotic because the vet thought the problem from last weekend was likely some kind of tooth or gum infection, since he could smell the bad odor of infection from the cat's mouth. As the cat hissed and flailed violently. The vet was wrapping things up in 25 minutes, Dash was happy because the kid in the car got out and came over and spent 20 minutes petting him, and I paid $75 down (of I don't even know how much, she'll send me a bill monthly).

My shirt was mohair, mostly with dark hair from Corrigan and Bright Eyes, and I was wiped out.

I thought it would be good to sit and read LJ while I tried to psych myself up to go do the shopping. Of course, LJ was /is down, sort of. And so I tooled around looking for fanfic on Dreamwidth (plenty to choose from in my newest fandom, Hawaii Five-0 2010), so it was a pleasant enough morning.

The grocery run was not pleasant, but I am trying to feel relieved that it was only 90 degrees out. I really should try to go out and mow tonight, the front yard needs it (and the back, but I mowed that last weekend, so just the front this time). But right now I think I need a nap.
