I realize it's only been what, four days that my cold has presented symptoms, after a day of knowing I was coming down with something.

But.

I am tired. The lungs aren't as bad- at the moment- though I did take another Mucinex a half-hour ago because the nose is so stuffed up my ears are blocked up, too. And the decongestant that I took with the Mucinex can start working Any. Damn. TIME. Now.

Singer got an extra-special visit from the vet's daughter, in her role as vet tech. The vet called today from their hotel, to see how things were going, and when I explained about how I could tell exactly when the topical analgesic wore off, he decided they would call their daughter and have her stop by. She brought a non-needle syringe of the liquid to squirt on his abcess, and another syringe of more antibiotic to give. The stuff she put in his mouth tasted horrible, and he foamed like insanity. After that, she tried to give the injection slowly, but he was way too worked up. The whole thing only took like five minutes.

I could tell the analgesic had taken effect as soon as she left- we went over and got food out and he ate fairly well, considering. This evening I ended up heating chicken noodle soup in a pan, and mashed it with leftover Fancy Feast and some of the canned food I gave the other cats with their dinners. He only ate a little of that, but an hour later he was back in the kitchen and I offered it again, and he ate a lot more.

So. Tomorrow I have to go get more Fancy Feast, and dry cat food for the others. I also want to buy more Puffs, since I've opened the last box now. I've got to do some housecleaning- it's been so long that the floors in all the rooms are awful, and the drifts of gross, used Puffs overflowing all the trash baskets is actually making me twitchy. It's astonishing how much snot a single person can produce, you know?

But now I'm going to cough and blow my nose- a lot- and go to bed, where I will be unable to lie down without abruptly horking junk out of my lungs and onto the pillowcase (yuuuuck). Waking up to snot running out of the nose is fun, too.

I keep having intermittant coughing fits. And they are deep, wracking coughs, that make me move a lot. So the cats can't lie on me, when I'm sitting in a chair, or lying on my bed, because I keep shoving them off as I start to cough. They keep hovering, trying to get back on me as soon as I relax again, only I don't last long before another coughing fit makes them leave again. They believe I am doing it on purpose, based on their expressions.

Personally, I was kind of appreciating the fact that the Snot Monster that had taken me over was lodged in my nasal cavity, instead of the sinuses. That's now changed- I'm blowing out bloody snot from painful, traumatized sinuses. Which is so mundane for me that I am vaguely insulted, sort of.

And tonight's Hawaii Five-0 was vaguely unsatisfying. Not sure how to define it- it might just be the cold skewing my perceptions.

In somewhat better news, I think we may have turned a corner with Singer. He ate well today; after finishing off nearly a whole can of Fancy Feast for breakfast, he asked for more food later in the day so I got him a couple spoonfuls of the regular canned food and just mixed it down with a little bit of water. He ate most of that. Then dinner was another can of Fancy Feast, which he polished off except for a couple of the bigger chunks of solid food. Tomorrow I am going to try to give him the antibiotic, again. We'll see how that goes. He was scratching at his cheek again, where the abcess is healing up inside, and did not yelp this time.

Right now I'm going to take another dose of Mucines, and another dose of decongestant, and go to bed.
