Friday is my Thursday
Oct. 5th, 2012 08:12 pmWhich means I still have to work tomorrow before my weekend.
Today I did get the mail. I tend to leave it, it's only junk mail and bills, and most of my bills I've switched to online. So, really, once every week or two is fine for emptying out the PO box. Today's haul included a letter from the water company telling me that the check valve, which had been removed from my meter when they installed the new RFID meter, was going to be replaced within the next 30 days. It had been removed to give me time to install the thermal expansion tank they had badgered me about before the new meter was put in. Having no money, I didn't do that, but the water meter replacement did not appear to have any effect on my plumbing. According to this letter, that was because it wasn't actually complete yet.
So when I got home, I called my bro, who worked for years in the water and wastewater processing departments of first our small town, and then another, even smaller town. That means I got the whole thing explained to me, FINALLY, in a manner that made sense. Particularly when we got to the "unfunded mandate from the Ohio EPA" portion of the proceedings. Now I hate the water company slightly less than I did. I don't hate the Ohio EPA at all, because they had no choice in their own funding being taken away from them by the governor. But yeah, I do have to look into this, since the check valve might make the older portions of plumbing burst.
Seriously. Home ownership, SO. EXPENSIVE.
Then, shortly after I hung up with him the phone rang again. Usually I don't bother answering calls from unknown numbers, but I went ahead and answered this one. Clearly from a very large call center, but the woman was apparently so flummoxed at getting a live answer that she couldn't find who she was supposed to ask for ("Uh! Can I talk to... " and time passed as I counted down ten seconds), so I hung up on her. I will be very happy when the election is over, and I go back to zero phone activity.
And leaving work tonight I got delayed by a surprise (to me) parade blocking things off by my workplace. It's high school homecoming tonight, and I didn't realize they would be having a parade down the state route from the parking lot of the large church across the street from us. So I sat in my car and watched it. That was kind of nice.
Now I should try to do something constructive, but since I have to be up early again tomorrow for work I think I'll just do the usual- stooge around online and read fanfic (heavy on the Avengers right now, wish I could find lots and lots of recs) until it's time to go to bed. Hopefully tonight I won't dream of check valves and water hammers and so on. Because that would be weird. And I'm too tired to deal with weird these days.
