So the reason I am having so much trouble getting my eyes to work after I've been reading too much is a failure of convergence. Like, REALLY BAD. So he asked me to consider adult vision therapy, and I will be calling that place. Maybe tomorrow. They have home-guided kits you can use, but it takes a computer with a DVD drive, and my netbook doesn't have one. The USB disc drive I have will no longer work in it, seems I can't get a program to work to use it. BUT, I will take the option (and make it work, somehow) if the in-office treatments are as spectacularly more expensive as the optician thought they were.

I had hoped I might be able to go back to contacts, though I would need bifocal contacts. Well, that would run me $214 for the fitting, then probably $200 apiece for the contacts. That's the price with insurance. Since getting new glasses was already running me $607 (with insurance) I'm afraid the contacts will have to wait.

He had taken photographs of my retinas, and when he checked them, he thought my arteries and veins around the optic nerve looked a little hypertense. So they got out one of those wrist-reader blood pressure gauges. Yikes, 185/105! He asked me to please stop by my doctor's office on the way home to have a medical professional take a reading- and then call them back and ask for his tech, to report it to her. He also scheduled a recheck in 6 months, to look at the retinas again.

The doctor's office took readings on the left and right when I first got there- 198/104 and 206/104. Then they left me in the room to cool down a little, and 15 minutes later it was only down to 180/96 and 176/102. So now I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow. Looks like I'll be back on the hypertension drug prescription wheel.
