Imma go with "creepy"
Sep. 7th, 2014 09:18 pmDriving back to town after dark this evening, I was heading due east, admiring the almost-full moon. As I rounded a curve in the road, I noticed weird lights in the sky (OK, sure, it's been a loong time since the X-Files, but some things stay with a person). There was an uneven trail of them, at first put me in the mind of burning-out fireworks, but there was no sound and they weren't moving, just hanging there. We cars on the road were obviously getting closer, and as we rounded the next curve to pass by the Catholic church, I could see they were coming from behind it. Which switched my brain immediately from X-Files, to 'wait, when did this become an anime? Aren't those floating candle lanterns?'
Digging online I finally found the relevant info on the church's (poorly-designed) website, buried in the weekly bulletins archive. Blah blah religion blah, singer whatever-her-name-is would be performing Sunday evening, after which they would be sending prayers up in sky lanterns.
I want to say it was cool once I knew what was going on (and had researched sky lanterns: imagine an insert of the star with rainbow tail, "The More You Know!" right here). But I have to stay with creepy, since I had no clue.
