Avengers, again
Sep. 23rd, 2012 02:50 amAnother thing I enjoyed about seeing The Avengers in a theater was that I could stay and watch all the credits. I expected to see lots of visual effects credits, but seeing WETA? Perked me right up. Followed by company after company after company. I thought there were at least a dozen listed- the Wikipedia entry for the film says there were 14 used.
Also? Seeing an Ohio location filming office listed. Further research showed that Detroit lost out on the Avengers because their governor killed the film tax credit in their state (kind of unavoidable considering how desperately poorly the state's economy is doing). I remembered the film tax credit for Ohio being one of the things that was going to be killed here, too- but apparently Kasich changed his mind and instead made it bigger. Apparently there was a study done that showed that every dollar of credit the state offered yielded a return of $1.20. So Cleveland got to play New York City, as well as Stuttgart Germany. Yay? More impressive to me was the fact that they used NASA's Plum Brook Station near Sandusky for its Space Power Facility. And they staged some of the big explosions for the movie at the Chevy powertrain plant in Parma, Ohio.
So that was fun. And yes, I did stick around all the way to the very end, for the shawarma scene.
