Relief, of a sort

monkey5sToday at work I talked to the coworker who had the stomach bug before I did. I told her she should have kept it to herself, and that I spent Sunday sick in bed with it. She said she hated it, she was so sick, though she never did actually throw up, the diarrhea was bad enough. I told her I had a lot of pain, and she said, "Oh my god, YES! My back hurt from my shoulder blades down to my butt! It felt like the muscles were locked up solid!" And I immediately felt SO MUCH BETTER. No, it wasn't some weird kidney thing, it was all part of the illness! As was the headache. I was willing to put that on the stress, but it went with the package, too. Good to know.
But I did manage to refrain from expressing my happiness at her suffering. I told her it was not nice of her to pass it along to me. I did that with a very suspicious side-eye squint to her, and she squinted right back at me and said, "Let's see you prove that I gave it to you." AR AR AR!
Yeah, I'm going to miss these people. A lot. I have um, 13 work days left? I had wanted to ask the boss if I could work the 31st, for my last day, but then I heard he was telling people that we were actually over-staffed, and that the budget was bloated with hours, and the most he would be doing was hiring a part-timer to fill my full-time hours.
This obviously made me feel even more useless, since we have been SHORT-STAFFED for years. As it stands now, with him and the assistant director doing more and more work toward the consortium, we are falling farther and farther behind on some things. But yeah, I would say I'm gonna spare myself the humiliation of asking. As to where the library goes from here, it's not really any of my business. Also difficult to handle, as a concept. I'm sure I'll get over it.
