Ugh, the American insurance industry. My homeowner's insurance renews in early December. This year the original quote for the new year was 42% higher than last year. I can only guess it's because I took a hit on income by retiring, plus I took out a HELOC for repairs. Before I could do anything about it, there was an adjusted quote from the insurance agent that reflected that this was a renewal. That brought it down to only 20% more.

Today I called to see about raising my deductible (I set it very low to start with because my personal economy was so weak when I first got it). Raising it by $500 put me to a rate that is just 3.75% higher. Which I took, instead of trying a yet higher deductible. It's just so irritating- I've never had a claim. They have five years of pure profit from my account (and it's gone up 5-7% every year), and yet they were going to raise it 42% this year.

To come down from this build-up of impotent rage, I went to the MazdaUSA site to look at new cars I will likely never buy. Mazda cracks me up so much! If I bought a new Mazda now, I would probably go for the Mazda3 in a 5-door. The color choices for this car are red, light blue, dark blue, light grey, white, silver, dark grey, and black. Or, I would love to at least test drive the small crossover they started last year, the CX-5. The color choices for that are fewer, only red, light blue, dark blue, silver, white, medium grey and black. Of course, if I wanted the teeny little subcompact Mazda2, there you get good color choices- light blue, grass green, red, and then just silver, white, or black. It's a very pretty green. I wish the Mazda3 came in that green. All other models feature the same (lack of) range of colors. Even the very sporty car, the Miata, has a wack range- they skip the blue and have two different reds, medium grey, silver, white, and two different blacks. Nope, I can't see any difference in the image between the 'jet black' and the 'brilliant black'. Mazda: the car brand that wants your vehicle to fade into the background, regardless of time of day or season of year!
