Today's fail: had to break down and call the vet about Singer. He's gotten so he can't eat at all now. I could tell he was hungry this evening, but he just looked at the food bowl and then got up on the closed toilet seat. I thought maybe it was a hairball situation, so I got a few drops of oil on my fingers and offered it to him. He tried to lick some, but when he swallowed, he yelped and hissed and jumped down, then jumped into his bed and hid his face.
So. I wrote another check for the vet, which makes a total of $150 that I've paid on my $431 bill from last year, and now I'm adding more debt to it. The vet's wife picked him up tonight, and said she'd call me tomorrow.
Yesterday was the birthday dinner for the niece. She went home from work early, so we could have dinner with her. But, her mom had been under the weather for most of the week, and the neph ended up getting there way late (forgot about the birthday dinner, was helping friends refinish a floor). The niece was stressed because the place she works had taken back the incentives they had given last December (allowing them to work overtime in order to make up points against them for absences), and this meant she was nearly at the maximum points before being fired. She had already set it up to take this week off for a vacation with a friend in Tennessee, and she was not happy to suddenly be given a verbal warning because she had missed two days of work from snow storms in the past month.
During the visit, my bro noted that they have been informed that the school district is, in fact, going to contract out the custodial services, and there was a general e-mail sent to everyone that they would be expected to show the bidders around their respective schools and give them all the information they needed. Which... really? You tell the staff you're dumping their asses, and expect them to be all shiny happy people to help out the folks coming in to replace them? Seriously?
The s-i-l said she's going to take her retirement at the end of this school year, because the district is also planning to contract out the busing. I thought she had to work until 2013 to get her retirement in full, but it seems that was only to make up the 2 years she lost from being on disability (that was later disallowed). She'll have her 30 years in by the end of this school year.
The neph said that his Walmart had rolled everyone's hours back by another four, so he was working 28 hours a week now. The store he wants to transfer to has stated they aren't taking transfers for at least another month, so he's going to check the other Walmarts in the Columbus area. He's also worried about his cat- he's losing weight, and he can't tell if his cat is being bullied by the other animals at the place they're staying, or if there's a health issue going on.
And in a final fail note for me, as of last Friday I am once again delinquent in my property tax.
And in a general note of fail for Hawaii Five-0, I pretty much had whiplash at Lori's claim that she had let things slide with the task force because of her feelings for Steve. Um, what? You have had zero chemistry with the man, not even given any hints of feeling attraction toward him, have had no discernible scripted lines to hint at attraction, and suddenly you've been pining for him all this time? Not to mention the hamfisted way the governor dealt with it, telling her she had to choose which "side" she was on, the state of Hawaii or the 5-0 task force. Because now, it seems, the task force is the enemy of the state? Very confusing. And poorly written. And mean.
