Or something like that.

On the good side, the bro actually called me this morning. He didn't expect me to be home, but as I explain every single year, I always take a floating holiday on my birthday. We talked for a good hour and a half, which is rare (tinnitus makes telephone conversation a challenge for him). So that was nice.

On the bad side, Singer is back at the vet's. He stopped eating again, was acting like he had a sore throat, and was clearly getting weaker. I'm exhausted and dispirited over it, and wondering when we should start talking euthanasia. The vet will be home to look at him this evening, and they'll call me.

My only must-do today was to get the registration renewed on my car. I didn't get down to the BMV until a little before 3:00; in other words, prime time. It took a little over an hour to get my turn. Fortunately, I was prepared (unlike most of the people who got helped while I waited)- I had the needed documents to hand, and I had the appropriate amount of cash right there. So, once I stepped up to the counter, it took about three minutes (including the time she took to help handle the guy at the next station, who was giving that clerk a hard time).

I had also brought supplies to clean off the license plate so I could put the sticker on right away. So that is completely done for another year. Woo hoo.

On the way home I picked up the mail. My dislike of this keeps finding new justification. This time, it was a letter from the gas company explaining they will be changing how they choose suppliers, and the cost of gas will now change from month to month. Plus, I will get to pay sales tax on the gas I use from now on. Which, you know, shows that the state was behind pushing them to adopt this new procedure. I'm on the budget plan, so I won't see the surge from month to month, but I bet I have to get that monthly amount adjusted upwards.

The rest of the mail was the usual bills (reminder of never enough money to really cover them) and junk (at least I can usually stand there in the post office and throw the junk mail in their trash receptacles, instead of having to deal with it here).

Now I have to cook the beans that I have soaking (I swear, bean soup sounded good last night when I was thinking of dinner tonight, but now? Ugh), and try to persuade myself to be less glum. Blah.
