Hmm, didn't realize it had been so long
Aug. 19th, 2012 05:04 pmOr, long time no post, eh?
To the tiny handful of people who read my posts, sorry! I blame
thefourthvine for this. She posted something about "spacetoasters" as a fandom characterization, and someone immediately brought up Parker, from Leverage, which reminded me of how much I enjoyed that character. Then I started looking for Parker-focused fanfic, and that reminded me that it had been awhile since I had seen the show. I immediately began looking on ILL, and within a week I had both season one and two, and was powering through them.
Somehow, this led to looking for other original shows that I knew had strong fandoms. I can't say why I ended up with The Sentinel on my search list, but I also decided to try for Sherlock, only partially to see what this December's Bilbo Baggins might be like. The first surprise? The boss had just decided to buy seasons one and two of Sherlock for our library! I powered through the three eps of season one, and at the cliffhanger ending, I found myself yelling at the TV, "You DID NOT just DO THAT to me!!" (as all the fans who originally watched it sigh in fond remembrance).
I took a brief detour when I got season three of Leverage- I had seen those recently enough that I was surprised to find that there was apparently a disc missing from my previous viewing of the season (probably the libraries that had it separated the discs out individually and I missed disc 3). That was kind of nice. I have seen nothing of season four, which is out on DVD recently enough that I will have a long wait before I can snag a copy on ILL.
Along the way, I did score the first season set of The Sentinel, and I have watched the first disc. I recall watching the premiere before, but in my memory it's poor visual quality, so I suspect I caught it in syndication sometime on a distant TV channel. At this point, I have read enough episode-related fanfic for the show that I found some of the details shown onscreen to be off-putting. Yes, I am self-centered enough that I like my imagined versions (of things like Jim's loft) better than the show. I do know that season one is THE ONLY season released on DVD, so I'm not sure if I'll try to scrounge up more online after I watch them.
I have, however, got season two of Sherlock to watch this weekend (we have reserves coming in fast on it at our library, so I don't want to keep it the full loan time). Right now I'm trying to choose between another disc of The Sentinel or Sherlock.
Anyway, it's pretty boring for anyone who isn't inside my head right now. So I'll just be over here trying to find non-dead links for Sentinel fic recs as I troll for good Leverage fic, while I decide if I want to jump into the fic for Sherlock.
