Ugh.

The good? Today I received the copy of my birth certificate that I need to complete my application for retirement. I will photocopy it tomorrow at work, print out the letter to mail it with, and get it into the mail. I really wish they would allow online submission of the birth certificate, instead of requiring it be mailed or carried in by hand.

The bad? Today I also got the notice for my homeowner insurance renewal. They are jacking it up by nearly 30% this year. This means I have to call and see about getting my deductible raised to try to get that amount back down from ridiculous land. No, I can't afford the deductible as it is, so raising it doesn't feel like much of a sacrifice.

The indifferent? Got to play phone tag with the caseworker for my workers comp claim. She did tell me, in message #2, that I can look up places that are certified for workers comp (to get my stitches out, since my family practitioner doesn't do workers comp), and I can also go back to the emergency room and have them do it there. Since I still don't have anything that includes a case number, I don't quite know how that's supposed to work. Guess that's for another round of phone tag.

The amusing? Today at work the assistant director (who is also our cataloger) hosted two people from another library that will be coming into our consortium early next year, to get them familiarized with using Evergreen. They will be migrating from the same ILS that we used to have, so this was much more direct help than the usual training. They worked in her office, and it's directly beside our main work area, and is a very tiny room so the door was not closed (I suspect three people in there with the door closed would use up all the oxygen pretty quickly). So we got to hear her explaining all the things that would be different, and how to handle sharing records for all different things. It was amusing to hear them complaining about exactly the same things she and I complain about, regarding TLC to Evergreen conversion.

But the best part came around noon-thirty-ish, when the director was leaving for lunch and wanted to poke his head in to tell her that. AND TO TELL HER GUESTS TO MAKE SURE SHE BROKE FOR LUNCH. Because the last time she ran a cataloging training, she completely failed to give the people any breaks. (She said she didn't think it would take that long for the meeting, so they just kept working, and then the staffer who usually uses the heritage room went in to tell her she was going home, and to be sure to lock up when their meeting ended. The assistant director had been in "laser focus" mode, and was surprised to find out that SIX HOURS HAD PASSED since the meeting started. She ended it pretty quickly after that, and saw the six people out with lots of embarrassed apologies. The one woman told her it was fine, she didn't even think about lunch until around 2:30, when she heard the stomach growling from the guy sitting beside her. AR AR AR!) Today, they broke for lunch shortly after the director left.

As for me, I will have to try another round of phone tag early tomorrow (which I despise)- I have to be at work at 9:00 on Fridays, so I will have to be ready to go early and try to call my workers comp caseworker shortly after 8:00. I'm pretty sure I'll need a case number to get these stitches and staples out, and my ten days of waiting for the incision to heal are up this weekend.
