I thought I was going to bed. But I looked over the changes in the health care coverage that OPERS is enacting starting in 2014, and now my stress levels are spiking.

Currently my employer covers 80% of my health care, through the scumbags at Anthem. My 20% amounts to an approximate 9-10% of my gross income. OPERS is moving from covering health care at 100% for my qualifications, to covering it at 76% (for my age and years of service) in 2017. Using the current amounts given, and based on what I can expect for my pension, this will cost me about 11-12% of my gross income.

Considering that the much less expensive health care coverage was one of the main reasons I decided I needed to retire now, under the old rules, this is a bit of a burn. But, at least my pension will increase a steady 3% per year, since I'm leaving under the old rules. The new rules will give you at most 3%, but if the Consumer Price Index for the year is less than that, that's what you get instead.

No, it's not enough to make me cancel my retirement (still PENDING, by the way), but it was not fun to see that.

I also got the notification of the increased rate on my homeowner's insurance (December is my anniversary month). It's jumping 30% again this year- so I will have to call the agent and see if I can increase my deductible to try to bring that down.

Money worries, the biggest, and ugliest, of the Stresses That Make Me Grind My Teeth At Night. So, maybe the insomnia is a better idea than a night of increased TMJ!
