Mooovies!

The nearest first-run theater to my house (14 miles by the faster route, 11 1/2 miles by the more direct, but slower route) is running a summer promotion of all tickets on Tuesdays for $5 apiece. I went with my niece to see Iron Man 3, then we saw Star Trek: Into Darkness on a regular matinee price day.

I didn't make it to a movie last week, but today I caught a double feature of Fast & Furious 6, followed by Now You See Me. I highly recommend both- but I give the edge to Fast 6. Car chases, of course. Car crashes, you know it. Plane and tank crashes! Actual plot! That holds together, with only a smidge of suspension of disbelief!

I'm happy to see the discount ticket promo is supposed to last all summer. I spent some time browsing on comingsoon.net, and have augmented it with trailers that look interesting. At this rate, I need a spreadsheet to keep track of everything I want to see. For example, next week I can do another double feature to catch After Earth (released this week) and The Internship (coming out Friday)- but if my theater is showing Much Ado About Nothing I want to be sure to catch that. June 14th is the release date for The Bling Ring, but I think that's all I want then, so I could put off The Internship to catch then.

It gets worse in July.

I'm toying with the notion of going all the way down to the Drexel Theater (still the main indie/art film theater in these parts) in Bexley tomorrow- they have special rates on movie before noon, on the three days that they show movies then. I kind of want to see Frances Ha, which shows at 11:30. If I get a good, early start, I can stop at the Bexley Coffee Shop en route- they roast their own coffee. I feel obligated to try to find a local coffee roaster, instead of ordering again from Peace Coffee in Minneapolis. Peace Coffee has Certified Fair Trade suppliers, and I am ridiculously fond of a couple of the dark roasts they offer. BUT, the shipping from Minnesota kind of puts it into deluxe category for me, and my budget says no really expensive coffee if I'm going to do movies every week.

However, if I don't get a good, early start, I will not go at all. We'll see. For now, I'm still coasting on a movie high from this afternoon and evening, and I will ride it as long as I can.

Mooovies!

I actually went to a movie this year: Star Trek Into Darkness. It was better than the first rebooted one (damning with very faint praise, there); I'm glad I saw it.

I hope you can make it up and out early enough for your coffee-and-movie expedition tomorrow.

The Seanan McGuire books are great. She actually has two series going; the other one starts with Discount Armageddon. I *think* there are only two more to come in the October Daye series.

As far as I know, the October Daye books do have a planned end. But I thought there were only two more coming, so I could be wrong.
