Fireworks!
Jul. 4th, 2013 10:38 pmI did not go to our town's fireworks display, as per usual. However, I did stand at my open front door, leaning on the walker, for the 20 minutes the display lasted, because the higher ones were partially visible over the house/trees across the street. I could have seen more of them if I'd gone up to the square, to the parking lot in front of the former convenience store on the west side. But this was fine.
It has been heavily overcast, with intermittent sprinkly showers all day, and the overcast apparently made it easy to hear lots of other fireworks going on. At least one of them started 15 minutes before ours did, and during ours I could hear overlapping booms at three different pitches from elsewhere. Also, the local neighborhood fireworks only slowed down a little while the town's display was on, and they are still going off now. There is also somewhere else with big fireworks still going, judging from the very distant rumbling.
Maybe next year I will actually go to the fireworks. Watching the big display from downtown Columbus on TV is never as good as seeing even a small display in person.

Date: 2013-07-08 01:15 am (UTC)I still wouldn't expect them to do anything but freak out if we have another Civil War reenactment weekend in town. They do a night-time cannon firing, even though it's just half-strength powder, and it rattles the windows like whoa. Of course, that's conducted at the park a block away from my house. And it's the enormous old windows in the front rooms that rattle.
