Just saw in the local free paper that next Saturday there will be the annual local music scene fundraiser concert in Delaware, OH. The difference is that this year the headliner will be Delbert McClinton. Delbert! McClinton! And me unable to get around. The article in the paper noted that there had been a lot of buzz since they announced his appearance, "because he has a large underground Delaware following and anybody who lives within driving distance is going to traveling to see him play."

First question, what is the difference between an underground and a regular following, when you're talking about a long-careered country/blues singer? Second question, this is Ohio. People do commute ridiculous lengths to work, so are people from, like, 2 hours away going to be flooding into Delaware for this? I wonder. They note that usually around 5000 people attend, and they are getting e-mails that indicate they might see a couple thousand more than that.

The article is hilarious in that it does not actually tell WHERE, exactly, the concert (and silent auction goods and food trucks and beer garden) will be located, other than "a 30-foot stage on Sandusky Street." It's a free paper, what can I say?

Also on the front page is an article about my town deciding to replace the standing-seam galvanized metal roof on the historic Town Hall with a copper roof (and copper gutters and downspouts). Ohio having led the country in insurance claims regarding metal theft, with copper being the primary one, the fact that the village council felt that the longer life of a copper roof made it preferable to replacing the galvanized metal seems humorous. But, of course, the Town Hall is in the middle of the square, and the police department is right across the street in the municipal building, so someone getting even the downspouts off the building would be... really, really pathetic.

We shall see.
